is offering the opportunity of working at their Independent Opticians Practice in Ipswich town centre. Initially starting as an optical assistant, the position would progress to incorporating 3 year degree-level apprenticeship with them in September 2026. The candidate should have three A-levels, ideally including Biology.
A J Rawling is an independent opticians established in 1923, offering patients a professional, relaxed environment with an emphasis eye-health without ‘sales pressure’. Facilities include a ground floor air-conditioned consulting room, waiting room, dispensing area and clinical assessment room. The business is located on Northgate Street in Ipswich.
- This is an immediate full time starter position, which will lead to a fully funded three year apprenticeship following a successful probation period
- The starter position role is 9-5pm at the premises in Ipswich, five days a week to run Tuesday to Saturday (with Sunday and Monday off)
- The degree-level apprenticeship in Dispensing Optics would begin in September next year and comprise four days supervised working at their Ipswich Optical Practice and one day a week studying in London.
- The apprenticeship component of the role will be fully funded and upon completion will open a new salary range (Currently, qualified DOs earn a starting salary of around £25K + per annum)
Person Requirements
- Enthusiastic, motivated and committed
- Must be able to get to the Ipswich premises consistently, located at postcode IP1 3DB. (You will also be expected to be able to make the one-day-a-week trip to London, when the apprenticeship begins in Sept 2026)
- 3 A-levels (or level 3 equivalent) - ideally including Biology
- Additionally, a good level of understanding of maths and physics would be helpful for the apprenticeship
